According to a
Vice report, Dhaka customs officials on July 24, 2013, recovered the gold bars worth about Tk540m from the packaging panel of a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight after it landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka from Kathmandu in Nepal.
The flight carrying the bars originated in Dubai and travelled through Saudi Arabia and Nepal before coming to Bangladesh.
Complaints have long been raised that Shahjalal International Airport is a haven for smuggling and illegal trading networks that are helped by a section of unscrupulous officials and employees of different government and non-government agencies deployed at the airport.
