A team of Detective Branch (DB) of police has detained six frauds, who had been faking their identity as DB policemen, from the capital’s Kodomtali area on Friday.
The detainees are Jahangir Alam alias Shakil, Mamun Hossain, Amin Gazi, Rony alias Mahbub, Ibrahim and Shakhawat Hossain Sahib.
“Acting on a tip-off, we conducted a drive and arrested them while they were preparing for a robbery,” Dhaka Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner (Media) Najmul Alam confirmed at a press briefing at DMP Media Centre on Saturday.
“We have also recovered a pistol, three bullets, a walkie-talkie and a handcuff from the miscreants.

“During primary interrogation, the miscreants confessed about being arrested several times over the same charges,” the DC said. “They came out on bail and continued the felony."
The DMP spokeman also said that the miscreants used to position themselves beside banks or financial institutions. They targeted individuals who withdrew money from the institutions.
Later, they flaunted DB police identity to seize cars and other valuables leaving the victim at an isolated spot, he added.
