A schoolgirl has been raped in Panchbibi upazila of Joypurhat, while a second grader and an indigenous girl have been sexually harassed in Lakshmipur and Rajshahi respectively.
In Joypurhat, police on Sunday evening arrested a youth for allegedly raping the girl, an eighth grader, who was later admitted to the district’s Adhunik Zila Hospital for better treatment.
According to police, the accused, Sabbir Hossain alias Swift, 26, from the same area, tricked the victim into his Joypurhat town residence in the morning, where he raped her, after making the latter unconscious.
When she got back to her sense, the victim’s physical condition started worsening due to excessive bleeding following the rape, police added.
Afterwards, Swift put her on a bus heading towards her home, and went into hiding. But she collapsed during her journey, prompting her co-passengers to come to her rescue.
Her family, on information, hospitalised her at a local medical centre, and finally shifted her to the hospital around 9pm as she became rather ill.
The hospital’s Resident Medical Officer Dr Ataur Rahman said evidence of rape was primarily found on the victim’s body.
She became seriously weak owing to continued bleeding, he added.
Joypurhjat’s Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police Sazzad Hossain they started extensive investigation into the case filed with Panchbibi police station.
Meanwhile, a madrasa teacher was detained over the sexual harassment of an eight-year-old girl inside classroom in Lakshmipur Sadar upazila on Sunday afternoon.
Police said locals gave Morshedul Alam, the accused, a good beating after catching him red handed in the act.
The victim’s family said Morshedul abused her undressing and taking photos after finding her alone at the crime scene.
Hailing from Noakhali, Morshedul, 25, was also sacked by the madrasa authorities, after guardians and locals reacted heavily over the incident.
A case was filed in this connection.
In another development, a photographer has been accused of sexually abusing an ethnic girl in Tanore upazila of Rajshahi on Sunday afternoon.
Tanore police said father of the victim, also a class VIII student, sued Raihan Ali, the owner of a studio called Mim Studio and Photostat, later at night.
Quoting the complainant, police said Raihan cunningly took her inside a secret chamber of the studio and started sexually harassment.
As she began screaming, people nearby came to her rescue, though Raihan managed to flee the scene.
Police said they were conducting raids to arrest the culprit.
