Customs officials have seized 13 gold bars concealed in a passenger’s wig at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka. The passenger, Aminul Haque, 45, hailing from Munshiganj’s Sreenagar upazila, is a businessman in profession. Customs Assistant Commissioner HM Ahsanul Kabir told the Dhaka Tribune that the passenger arrived at Dhaka airport around 10:30pm Tuesday from Malaysia by a flight of Malinda Airlines. “Tipped off, we challenged him when he was crossing the green channel,” said the customs official. “The passenger initially denied of carrying any illegal items but the gold bars, worth around Tk65 lakh, were found in his wig while being scanned in the archway.” The detained passenger was handed over to police and the seized items were handed over to the authorities concerned, the official added. Filing of a case in this connection was under process when the report was filed.
