A suspected criminal has been killed in a “gunfight” with police in Mymensingh’s Trishal upazila early Wednesday.
According to police, deceased Ashraful Alam Dome was accused in at least 14 cases filed on various charges including murder, hijack and robbery.
Imarot Gazi, officer-in-charge of Detective Branch (DB) of Mymensingh police, said a police team along with Ashraful conducted a drive to arrest some robbers around 3am.
“The gunfight ensued when Ashraful’s cohorts started firing at police and tried to snatch him in Trishal’s Kathal area,” the OC added.
He said that Ashraful received bullet wounds during the gunfight and died while being taken to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.
“DB police arrested five of Ashraful’s accomplices during the drive,” said the OC.
