Police have arrested a madrasa administrator from Barguna town in a case filed for abducting a madrasa girl.
Barguna police station Officer-in-Charge SM Masuduzzaman Tuesday said they had arrested Abdul Awal Siraj, 45, from his residence at Jannatul Mawa Mohila Hafizia Madrasa in Bottola area on Monday night.
The accused was earlier arrested in Barguna in 2013 along with banned militant group Ansarullah Bangla Team’s spiritual leader Jasim Uddin Rahmani. He was later freed on bail.
During primary interrogation, Siraj denied having abducted the girl and insisted that she had been picked up by a jinn.
The 13-year-old girl went missing several hours after entering the madrasa on May 26, according to her mother Mahfuza Begum.
Mahfuza said the madrasa administrator on May 26 had informed her over phone that her daughter had been missing from the madrasa.
She also noted that the administrator and his wife had proscribed against informing the matter to the police.
A case has been filed in this connection under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act 2000.
