Police have arrested eight Jamaat-e-Islami leaders and activists including its Magura district unit leader, Farid Uddin, after raiding his house at Shalikha upazila on the suspicion that it was being used as a militant hideout.
A huge cache of electronic gadgets including fake note making materials were seized from the house during the operation on Friday night, said Shalikha police station Officer-in-Charge Rabiul Islam on Saturday. Farid had at least two cases filed against him for subversive activities in the district.
The other arrested Jamaat leaders and activists are Bachchu Mia, Obaidur Rahman, Abul Bashar, Robiul, Jahidul Islam, Anwar Hussain and Jahangir Alam.
“A team of police led by the district’s Additional Superintendent of Police Tariqul Islam started the raid around 7pm,” the OC said.
The arrestees were holding a clandestine meeting to commit sabotage in the area, he added.
