Officials of the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) seized 40 seemingly abandoned gold bars from an airplane at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on early Wednesday.
The gold bars, weighing about 4.66kg and estimated to be worth Tk2.33 crore, were found hidden in the covers of four seats of the Emirates flight which had arrived from Dubai, said CIID sources.
CIID Director General Dr Moinul Khan told Dhaka Tribune: “Acting on a tip-off, a CIID team searched the entire plane, which is flight EK-584 from the UAE via Dubai, and found the gold in the covers of the seats numbered 37-J, 37-K, 38-J and 38-K.”
