Update : 19 Jun 2017, 12:37 PM
A drug peddler, who escaped from police custody, has reportedly been killed in a shootout with rival group in Jessore’s Bagharpara upazila on early Monday. The deceased Sabbir Islam, 25, was a son of Saidul Islam from upazila’s Khalilpur village. Earlier on Sunday afternoon, police arrested Sabbir from his residence and recovered a pistol, sharp weapons, drugs and cash from his possession. But he reportedly escaped the scene being restrained with manacle. Officer-in-Charge of Bagharpara police station Sheikh Ohiduzzaman told the Dhaka Tribune that they were reported about a gunfight between two rival drug peddling groups on Jessore-Narail highway around 3am while a patrol team of police was on duty. “Sensing presence of the law enforcing men, the drug peddlers immediately left the scene,” the OC added. “Police recovered the body of a youth who had succumbed to bullet injuries in his neck and later the deceased was identified as Sabbir Islam, the man who escaped from police custody in the previous afternoon.” “Police also recovered some 107 bottles of Phensedyl from the spot,” he added. The dead body was sent to Jessore General Hospital for autopsy, the OC added further.
