CTTC to prepare Gulshan attack charge sheet after Rashed’s remand
Police will prepare the charge sheet in the Gulshan terrorist attack case interrogating Aslam Hossain alias Rashed, one of the planners of the deadly attack, Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit Chief Monirul Islam has said. At a media briefing on Saturday, he said they would seek the court's permission to interrogate Rashed, who was arrested in Natore a day ago, for 10 days. “We will be able to get more information through interrogation,” he added.

Monirul said Rashed was very close to New JMB leader Tamim Chowdhury and also one of the masterminds of Gulshan cafe attack. “On Tamim’s order, Rashed trained Rohan Imtiaz and Meer Saameh Mubasser on how to hurl grenades. The latter two were killed in a commando raid on the cafe,” Monirul added. Rashed was supposed to take part in the attack but Tamim decided to use him for future attacks, he said. The CTTC chief said after Tamim's death, Rashed hoped to get a senior post in New JMB but was disappointed. “Ayub Bachchu is the current chief of New JMB. Rashed stayed away from him and later decided to run organisational operations on his own,” he added. Monirul said the militants had lost their capacity to carry out any large-scale violence at the moment.

Six days of remand

Investigating Officer Humayun Kabir produced Rashed before the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Nurunnahar Yasmin and asked for 10 days in remand. The magistrate granted six days.

Bangladesh witnessed its deadliest terror attack on July 1 last year when armed militants barged into an upscale eatery in Dhaka’s diplomatic hub and killed 22 people, including 17 foreigners and two policemen. The five militants, all members of a new faction of Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) that expressed allegiance to IS, were killed after a 12-hour standoff. Several high-profile militants, including Tamim, have been killed in anti-militant operations in recent months.
