DB officer, two others shot during raid in Jurain

A Detective Branch (DB) official and two civilians were shot and two civilians were shot in an exchange of gunfire during an illegal firearms raid in Jurain, Dhaka, late on Saturday night. The victims have been named as DB Senior Assistant Commissioner Rahul Patwari and two men named Selim and Billal Hossain Mridul, sources told the Dhaka Tribune. Ruhul and Mridul were taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) immediately, where they are currently undergoing treatment, said Deputy Commissioner Masudur Rahman of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP). The Officer-in-Charge at the DMCH police outpost Bachchu Mia said the DB official had been shot on the left side of the abdomen, while Mridul was shot in his left leg. Selim, who was shot in the back, was taken to the Mitford Hospital, sources said. DMP Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia, who visited the injured DB officer at the DMCH, said Ruhul and his team had been conducting a raid to catch firearms smugglers in Jurain's Postogola area following a tip-off. As the detectives closed in on the criminals, Ruhul caught one of them, which prompted another criminal to shoot him. This led to a gunfight and the two civilians were shot. All of the criminals were able to flee the scene. The DMP commissioner said Ruhul was now in stable condition. He did not comment on the condition of the other two victims. Sources said police were preparing to block raid the Postogola area to find the criminals.
