Update : 17 Aug 2017, 04:17 PM
Police have filed a case under the Anti-Terrorism Act over the anti-militant operation at Dhaka's Panthapath. The case was filed around 11:40pm on Wednesday, police's Ramna Division Deputy Commissioner Maruf Hasan Sarder said. Police raided Hotel Olio International at Panthapath on Tuesday where militant Saiful Islam, suspected to be a member of New JMB, had been staying.Saiful blew himself up after he was cornered by police during a raid. The hotel is just a few hundred metres from Bangabandhu Memorial Museum, where the president and the prime minister had paid tributes to Bangladesh's founding father Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on the National Mourning Day, mere hours before the raid. Police said they suspected Saiful, 21, and several other militants had planned to bomb a procession at Dhanmondi 32. Dhaka Metropolitan Police Chief Asaduzzaman Mia said they were trying to find other militants who could be hiding in the capital.
