Freedom fighter killed in suspected robbery attempt
Suspected robbers on Tuesday night allegedly broke through the collapsible gate of the Teesta branch of Krishi Unnayan Bank Limited in Lalmonirhat and killed one of its security guards, who was also a freedom fighter. The deceased was identified as Abdur Rashid, who had been working as a guard at the bank since 1983. Sweeper Dhonobati Rani, who went to the bank on Wednesday morning, found the body lying in a pool blood and informed bank officials, said bank sources. Mahfuz Alam, officer-in-charge of Lalmonirhat police station, said the miscreants had entered the bank by breaking open the collapsible gate at night and slaughtered Rashid while he was sleeping after having his dinner. He added that they subsequently tried to break into the bank vault, but fled the scene after failing to do so. The OC further said that no ulterior motive for the murder has been discovered as yet, and assured that the killers would be caught as soon as possible. A case has been filed against Bank Manager Abu Ruhel Mohammad Oyesal Koroni regarding the incident, and the security guard’s body was sent to Lamonirhat Sadar Hospital for autopsy
