Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) have detained the prime accused in a case filed in Mymensingh for beating a youth to death.
RAB-14 Commanding Officer Major Shariful Islam said they captured Akkas Ali from Kishoreganj's Bhairab upazila on Thursday night.
Earlier on the day, two other accused – Riazul and Fazlu Mia – gave their confessional statement before a Mymensingh court under section 164 of the CrPC. The two accused were held by police between Wednesday night and Thursday morning.
Police on Tuesday recovered the dead body of Sagor Ahmed, 20, who was beaten to death allegedly on suspicion of stealing, from a bush in the Char Shirampur area in Gouripur upazila of Mymensingh.
Sagor was the son of Shipon Miah hailing from Mymensingh’s Natok Ghor Len area.
Superintendent of Mymensingh police Syed Nurul Islam told the Dhaka Tribune that the attack took place at a fish hatchery on Monday morning.
He said: “Owner of the hatchery Akkas Ali, his son Kayum and some of their associates brutally beat the youth after tying him to a post on accusation of stealing.”
“They dumped his body in an adjacent bush when the youth lost consciousness,” the police superintendent added.
After being informed by local residents, police recovered the body and sent it to the Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, where the duty doctors declared Sagor dead.
According to locals, Sagor used to collect and sell scrap metal.
