Father, daughter found dead in Badda
A man and his daughter were found dead at their residence in Moynarbagh area of Badda in Dhaka on Thursday. The deceased were identified as Jamil Sheikh, 38, and Nusrat, 9. Confirming the matter to the Dhaka Tribune, Badda police station OC Kazi Wajed Ali said the bodies had bruises which suggested that they had died of strangulation. “However, it is not clear yet whether they were murdered,” he added. “The incident may have taken place on Wednesday night. We are looking into it.” Police took the Jamil's wife Arzina into their custody for questioning. Jamil's landlord Dulal Pathan informed police about the incident. He said he heard someone crying in Jamil’s rooftop flat during Fajr prayer on Thursday. When he went up to the rooftop to inspect, he saw Arzina crying. Arzina told Dulal that four people had come and killed her husband and daughter. Speaking at a press briefing on Thursday, Dulal said Jamil and his family had moved into his building a month ago. Part of the flat was sublet by the family, he added. Speaking to the Dhaka Tribune on condition of anonymity, a Badda police official said he suspected that Jamil’s daughter Nusrat was killed because she probably saw the faces of the attackers. The official also found Arzina's reaction to the incident unnatural as she did not scream or react in any usual way when the murders took place. The person the family was subletting the flat to also went missing after the incident, the official added. At the press briefing, Jamil's brother Dulal Sheikh said Arzina had been having a fight with Jamil and was staying at her mother's home in Savar. “She returned to my brother a month ago. We had dinner together at the night my brother and niece were murdered,” he said. Mostaq Ahmed, deputy commissioner of Gulshan division in Dhaka Metropolitan Police, said Arzina was being interrogated in the case. “We have also sent the bodies to Dhaka Medical College morgue for a post-mortem examination. We hope to solve this murder case soon,” he added. Another double murder took place in Kakrail, Dhaka on Wednesday – a woman named Shamsun Nahar and her son Shaon were found dead in their residence, their throats slit.
