Update : 10 Nov 2017, 12:47 AM
Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on Thursday afternoon detained and interrogated decorated freedom fighter Habibul Alam Bir Protik from his office at New Eskaton in Dhaka. RAB released Habibul later same day, after questioning him for several hours. Lt Col Sarwar Bin Kasem, commanding officer (CO) of RAB 1, confirmed the matter to the Dhaka Tribune. The RAB 1 CO said Habibul had been picked up after his phone number was found in connection with a case filed over the embezzlement of money by a bank manager. However, Habibul told RAB that he had also been deceived by the swindlers, RAB 1 CO added. Meanwhile, the freedom fighter’s daughter Tahsin Alam told the Dhaka Tribune that a group of people riding on four vehicles came to his father’s office at the TMC Building in Eskaton at around 1:15pm and took him along with them. Habibul works at ISN, an internet service provider. Tahsin added that when she and other family members contacted police on the matter, they were told that Habibul was picked up by RAB. When asked about her father’s release, Tahsin around 9pm on Thursday said: “I do not know yet whether he has returned home.” However, around 12:45am on Friday, Tahsin confirmed the Dhaka Tribune that her father was home.
