Update : 10 Nov 2017, 03:41 PM
It has been two days since, Dr Mubashar Hasan Cesar, assistant professor at North South University (NSU), went missing after a meeting on Tuesday afternoon. His father Motahar Hossain filed a General Diary (GD) with Khilgaon police station in the early hours of Wednesday. “We filed the GD around 2:30am and reported my son missing to RAB 3 at 9am [on Wednesday]. The law enforcement agencies have been extremely cooperative and we hope to find my son soon,” said Motahar. DMP Deputy Commissioner (media) Masudur Rahman told the Dhaka Tribune that they were trying their best to locate Mubashar, adding: “Several teams, including the Detective Branch, are on the case.” According to Ain O Salish Kendra, at least 50 enforced disappearances, allegedly by law enforcement officials, had occurred between January and September this year. While bodies of two of the missing were found, seven others were released and RAB arrested three. Those who went missing in the past few months include Bangladesh Kalyan Party Secretary General Aminur Rahman, Honorary Consul of Belarus and businessman Aniruddha Kumar Roy who went missing on August 27, McGill University student Ishrak Ahmed, and BNP leader and ABN Group MD Sayeed Shahadat Ahmed. Twenty-four-year-old Arafat Rahman from Nilphamari and journalist Utpal Das went missing in early October. Regarding the issue, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal recently said that many people were willingly going into hiding to embarrass the government. “I still hope that we can bring them back. Our intelligence agencies are working hard on this,” stated Asaduzzaman. Meanwhile, Sumona Chowdhury Sima and Shoti Rani Ghosh, wives of missing Bangladesh Janata Party President Mithun Chowdhury and central leader Ashik Ghosh Oshit, alleged at a press briefing at CRAB office on Thursday that when they went to report that their spouses were missing, Sutrapur police station OC told them that he could not accept their GDs as the two were picked up by the Counter-Terrorism and Transnational Crimes unit and asked them to contact Assistant Commissioner Ahsan Habib.
