After 'rescuing' him from Chittagong's Hathazari upazila, police have claimed that missing Brac bank official Md Naimul Islam Saikat had gone into hiding deliberately.
Naimul was handed over to his family on Monday after a Dhaka court recorded his statement, Tejgaon industrial zone police station OC Md Abdur Rashid said in the evening.
“Naimul was a sales and service officer at Brac Bank’s Shaymoli branch. He used to take loans from people (under a personal arrangement) at 3% interest rate and give out loans to others at 4% rate.”
"He made such transactions worth around Tk2crore. Naimul had give a Tk88 lakh loan alone to a friend who did not return the money on time,” said the OC.
Rashid said Naimul went into hiding when the lenders started asking him to return their money.
On December 26, Naimul had told his wife over phone that he was going to Brac Bank head office at the capital’s Niketan area and then disappeared without a trace.
His wife filed a general diary with Tejgaon industrial zone police the next day.
After that, OC Rashid said they traced missing Naimul's digital footprints and later, with help from Hathazari police, 'rescued' him from Hathazari’s Kacharipara area on Sunday.
“We had brought him to Dhaka and produced him before the court on Monday, before releasing to his family's custody following a court order,” he added.
