Militants from different outfits imprisoned in different jails

The police chief of prisons has said the militants from different outfits, imprisoned for militancy, are kept in separate jails, so they cannot discuss or plan together. He made the remark while talking to reporters at his office on Sunday. Inspector General (Prisons) Brig Gen Syed Iftekhar Uddin said: "Prison authorities do not allow militants to mix with other prisoners so they cannot radicalize them." However, the jail warrant does not mention if the prisoner is a militant. "The police headquarters prepares a report on the militants and forwards it to the prison authorities, which takes 2-3 months," he said. He also added that the prison authorities usually categorize them (the militants) after an informal discussion with the prisoners. According to him, 600 militants are imprisoned in 68 jails across the country.
