A minor girl was stabbed repeatedly and thrown into the septic tank of a school after being raped allegedly by a clerk of the institution in Hathazari upazila, Chittagong on Sunday.
The victim's father with the help of locals rescued her from the tank of Katirhat High School and took her to hospital.
An angry mob of locals also caught the alleged rapist, Apan Chandra, 55, and handed him over to police.
Hathazari police station OC Belal Uddin said the victim, a third grader at another school, had gone to Katirhat High School, which her brother attends, to look for him with a friend.
The school was earlier declared closed as the teachers were on a strike and they were staying in the upazila headquarters, he said.
When the victim came across Apan and asked about her brother, he took her to the first floor saying her brother was there, according to the girl’s friend.
As she did not come down even after a long time, the OC said, her friend went back and told their teacher who along with several students rushed in and asked Apan, who started acting rowdily, about the girl’s whereabouts.
Later, the teacher informed the matter to the victim's father, prompting a search party to look for her.
During the search, the locals heard screams from inside the septic tank of Katirhat High School and rescued the girl from there.
Later, they rushed her first to Hathazari Upazila Health Complex. From there she was shifted to Chittagong Medical College Hospital and undergoing treatment.
A case was also filed over the incident.
