
A man has slit his wife’s throat with a sickle before handing himself over to police in Satkhira on Wednesday.
The victim Nasima Khatun, a 35-year-old housewife and mother of two daughters, was murdered in the late hours of Tuesday by her husband Jalal Shana in the village of Raghunathpur in Krishnanagar union under Kaliganj upazila of Satkhira.
Afterwards, Jalal surrendered himself to the local police station, where he was immediately arrested.
Kaliganj police station OC Shubir Dutta said: “Nasima and Jalal were day labourers by profession. They have two daughters who study in grade VIII and X. Lately, Jalal had seemed mentally unstable, with multiple instances of violence and untoward behaviour.
“Sometime Tuesday night, he murdered his wife. The following morning he came to the police station and gave himself up. Police have recovered the victim’s body and sent it to Satkhira Sadar Hospital for postmortem examination,” he added.
The OC added that Nasima’s father was preparing to file a case in this regard.
