DB police inspector murder: primary suspect killed in gunfight
A suspected murderer has been killed in a gunfight with Detective Branch (DB) of police in the Pirerbag area of Dhaka’s Mirpur in the early hours of Friday. The dead is said to be involved in the murder of DB police Inspector Jalal Uddin who was killed on March 19 during an operation. According to the police, a team was sent to Pirerbag 60ft Bhanga Bridge area, based on a tip-off, around 2am to capture the murder suspect named Hasan. Sensing the presence of the police, a group of men started firing at the team and in retaliation the police team shot back. Later, Hasan’s accomplices managed to flee but his body was found at the scene of the gunfight. Mirpur police station SI,KhandakarManjurRahim, confirmed the incident and said the police recovered three firearms from the scene, including the guns that were stolen from two sergeants on January 11 from a house in Pirerbag. A DB police official said: “We had received information that Hasan was in thePirerbag area with his accomplices and based on that the team conducted the operation, but like the previous raid, Hasan and his accomplices started firing as soon as they saw the police.” He also said the body found at the scene was primarily identified as Hasan. The police even matched the body with pictures of him taken previously. However, his family will be brought in on Friday to make the body identification official. On January 11, two guns were stolen from a house in Mirpur’s Pirerbag. The guns belonged to Sergeant Mamunur Rashid and Sohel Rana. Over two months after the incident, on March 19, a team of DB police ran an operation in Pirerbag house number 1021. The team first wanted to recce the house before the operation as they were planning to go to a tin-shed on the roof of the two-storey building. Inspector Jalal Uddin was trying to climb up when the miscreants noticed him and hit him with a brick. Later they shot him twice in the head. DB Inspector Jahangir, alias Jalal Uddin, died of brain damage at Square Hospital around 2am on March 20. The DB official said Hasan was part of a gang of thieves who cut the window grills of residential houses and robbed them. There are several cases against him and his associates. He was captured by the police in the past as well. The police are trying to track down his associates,Manik and others, who were connected to the incident.
