Bravery disrupts daylight robbery, police arrest 3

The bravery of one man led to the arrest of three robbers of the "tana party" in the Bashabo area on Friday, as the man gave chase to the perpetrators when they fled the scene of their crime. While passing by on his motorcycle Shafayet Hossain noticed a woman screaming from a rickshaw, and immediately guessed that she had been robbed, said Sub-Inspector (SI) of Shahjahanpur police station, Tofazzal Hossain. He said: “A married couple was passing through the Buddhist temple area in Bashabo in a rickshaw when two men from a CNG auto-rickshaw intercepted the vehicle and snatched the woman's vanity bag, cellphone and some money. The CNG used by the robbers after it flipped over Bangla Tribune“When the couple began screaming for help, Shafayet noticed and began chasing the auto-rickshaw. By that time the robbers had gotten on the Khilgaon flyover and realizing that they were being chased, they cornered Shafayet, along with his motorcycle, against the flyover's railings,” he added. He also said: “During that time, the SI of Motijheel police station was passing by in a motorcycle, who then aided Shafayet in chasing down the robbers. The auto-rickshaw flipped over in its haste to get away while taking a U-turn towards Rajarbagh. Later, police officers from our station arrested the robbers.” Police officers inspecting the vehicle Bangla TribuneShafayet, who works as a software engineer in Cloudly Infotech, said: “I was headed to my office when I noticed a distressed woman screaming for help from a rickshaw in my motorcycle's looking mirror. Right then, a CNG auto-rickshaw passed my motorcycle in a rush. “I began chasing the robbers trying to flee in the auto-rickshaw. When they got on the Tejgaon flyover, I overtook the vehicle. The robbers then cornered me against the flyover's railing before getting away. I was not injured, however. “I began looking for help when a police officer came to my aid. The vehicle then flipped over while taking a U-turn towards Rajarbagh. The police station was informed and eventually the three robbers were arrested,” he added. One of the robbers, injured after the accident Bangla TribuneAnowar Hossain, his wife, Sharmin Akter and their child were the passengers on the rickshaw, who had arrived in the early hours of Friday from their village in Galachipa upazila of Patuakhali. They were on their way home in Shipahibag in Khilgaon when the robbery occurred, said Tofazzal. The arrested robbers are Abdul Jabbar, 30, Zakir Hossain Sikder, 25 and Mamun Sheikh, who have each been granted a three-day remand period by the court. Another injured robber Bangla TribuneAnowar had filed a case against them on Friday under clause four of the immediate trial law at the Shahjahanpur police station. Shahjahanpur station police informed that Tk2,450 had been recovered from the robbers, along with Sharmin's vanity bag and cellphone. Police also recovered items belonging to the robbers’ other victims, which they kept as evidence. SI Tofazzal said: “This gang is suspected of being involved in several other robberies.
