Police have recovered the bodies of a mother and son from a locked house in Sylhet. The deceased are Rokeya Begum, 40 and Rabiul Rokon, 15. Both of them had their throats slit.
Police also rescued a five-year-old girl from the scene of the crime.
Kotwali police station OC Gousul Hossain confirmed the matter, but the motive behind the murders was unclear.
The landlord of the house said the family used to live on the ground floor of the building. The deceased woman’s brother, Zakir Hossain, came around the house in the morning and called for her. No one answered the door.
Zakir heard a child crying inside the house, and told the landlord. The landlord called the local ward councilor Dinar Khan Hashu. The police arrived around 12pm and used a duplicate key to enter the house.
They found the two bodies and rescued the child.
The deceased son, Rokon, sat for the SSC examination this year from the Shahjalal Jamia Islamia School and College.
Hearing about the murder, a crowd gathered in front of the house. The police are preparing a report on the crime.
