
Police have submitted a charge sheet against two expelled Chhatra League leaders in an attempted murder case filed over brandishing firearms during a hawker eviction drive in Dhaka's Gulistan on October 27, 2016.
Shahbagh police station Sub-Inspector Akram Hossain filed the charge sheet on April 11 in the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court.
The charge sheet will be placed before the court of Metropolitan Magistrate Golam Nabi on Monday (April 15).
Akram Hossain confirmed that the two accused were present in the court.
The two BCL leaders are – Sabbir Hossain and Ashiqur Rahman, general secretaries of BCL Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) and Wari units respectively.
On October 27, 2016, a clash broke out between hawkers and an eviction team of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) when DSCC launched a drive to remove illegal makeshift shops from pavements and underpass market in Gulistan area.
Meanwhile, the two accused BCL leaders had fired over a crowd of hawkers which escalated a volatile situation into a violent clash between the hawkers and the city corporation staff.
Later, Shahbagh police station Sub-Inspector Abdul Mannan filed an attempted murder case against the accused in connection to the incident. Several people were also accused in the case.
