Man held with huge amount of foreign currency at Sylhet airport

The man was identified as Misbah Uddin, 52, who hails from Gazipur’s Kapasia upazila

Members of Civil Aviation Authority Bangladesh (CAAB) arrested a man with foreign currencies worth Tk2.17 crore at the MAG Osmani International Airport in Sylhet on Wednesday.

The man was identified as Misbah Uddin, 52, who hails from Gazipur’s Kapasia upazila. 

He was trying to catch the 6:20pm flight of Fly Dubai when a huge number of foreign currencies were detected inside his luggage during scanning.

The confiscated banknotes included Saudi Riyal, Emirati Dirham and Bahraini Dinar.

Officials said the man had flown to Dubai several times before from various airports.

Misbah was handed over to the airport police station following legal procedures.

On April 11, another passenger carrying foreign currencies worth Tk1.46 crore was also arrested at the same airport.
