The attack took place in Mohammadpur, Dhaka on August 4

Police have made no visible progress in the investigation into the attack on US Ambassador in Bangladesh Marcia Bernicat in Mohammadpur, Dhaka even a week after the incident took place.

An official vehicle of the US Embassy in Dhaka carrying the ambassador was attacked by a group of armed adult men, some on motorcycles, around 11pm on August 4.

The attack took place as the vehicle was leaving the residence of Dr Badiul Alam Majumder, secretary of civil society organization Shushashoner Jonno Nagorik – Citizens for Good Governance (SHUJAN), after a private event, according to a statement issued by the US embassy.

The ambassador and her security team were able to depart the area unharmed. There were no injuries to the ambassador, her drivers, or security staff; but two security vehicles sustained some damage, the statement said.

The miscreants also attacked Badiul's house and caused damage.

The SHUJAN secretary filed a general diary on the attack on his house with Mohammadpur police station, the station's OC Jamal Uddin Mir told the Dhaka Tribune.

“We did not find anything to identify the attackers,” he said.

The investigation was later taken over by the Detective Branch (DB) of police, he added.

When contacted, DB Deputy Commissioner (West Division) Mokhlesur Rahman said they received the case details on Wednesday.

“We are working on finding the attackers,” he told the Dhaka Tribune.

DB sources said the detectives were now scrutinizing the footage collected from the CCTV in the surrounding areas of Badiul Alam Majumder's house.

They are also speaking with the victims of the attack as well as the locals who live close to the house, sources added.

When contacted, Badiul told the Dhaka Tribune that he believed the perpetrators would be brought to book.

“I hope the law enforcement officials will identify and arrest the attackers soon,” he added.
