Security forces were unable to detain the traffickers
Twenty-four people, including children, have been arrested for reportedly trespassing into India through the Putkhali border of Benapole.
Members of the Putkhali Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) camp arrested the alleged trespassers, in a Putkhali village field, early on Monday morning.
The detainees are residents of: Chittagong, Khulna, Faridpur, and Bagerhat.
BGB 21 Battalion Captain Lt Colonel Imran Ullah Sarkar confirmed the incident.
However, BGB officials were unable to detain any of the traffickers.
BGB 21 Patkhali Camp Commander Subedar Munshi Lablur Rahman said: “Acting on a tip-off, we conducted a drive in the area and detained 14 men, seven women, and three children from the scene.”
Later, the detainees were handed over to Benapole port police.
