A total of 46 people involved with question paper leaks have been caught in the last 1.5 years, claims CID

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has claimed that, in the last week, they have arrested nine members—including the masterminds—of the largest ring leaking question papers.

With these latest arrests, CID has arrested a total of 46 people who are members of the ring—over the last 1.5 years—thus uprooting the group completely, claimed CID Special Superintendent of Police (Organized Crime) Mollah Nazrul at a press conference on Thursday. Additional Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sheikh Hemayet Hossain was present at the time.

According to law enforcement, there are two ways the question papers of different public examinations are leaked; via the printing press or devices such as mobile phones.

The head of the ring responsible for leaking the question papers via the printing press, Rakibul Hasan, as well as his associates—Khan Bahadur and Saiful Islam—have been arrested.

Additionally, six masterminds of the ring associated with leaking the question papers via devices—Alik Kumar Biswas, Ibrahim Mollah, Hafizur Rahman Hafiz, Masudur Rahman Tajul, Mostofa Kamal, and Ayub Ali Badhan—have also been arrested.

"People from all walks of life—bankers, teachers, government officials, and students—were associated with the arrested people," the CID official said at the press conference. "We have to come know the rings amassed almost Tk30 crore from the leaks."

However, with the latest bout of arrests, the group has been uprooted completely. "As a result, you have not seen any question paper leaks for the recently-held JSC examination," Nazrul added. "We are hopeful there will be no further leaks for the upcoming SSC exams either."

A lawsuit has been lodged against those arrested, CID said.
