Police have arrested five people accused in three separate incidents occurred in Gournadi and Wazirpur upazilas in Barisal.
Barisal Airport police station Sub-Inspector Arobinda Biswas on Thursday said they arrested a businessman Mojibor Rahman Hawlader, his wife Shaela Rahman and their employee Masum from Luthfar Rahman Road in Barisal city for torturing and violating their domestic help.
They were later sent to jail.
The domestic help was sent to Sher-E-Bangla Medical College Hospital (SBMCH) for medical test.
According to the victim’s statement, her employer couple physically tortured her regularly by beating and burning her body with hot iron and spoon and left her unfed.
Their male servant Masum, raped her regularly and gave her threats of dire consequences if she disclosed the matter.
When she informed the matter to her employers, they instead of taking any action told her not to disclose the matter to anyone.
Local people informed the police after the couple again beat her severely on Tuesday.
On other hand police arrested a construction worker Bellal Mistri, 22, from Pinglakathi area in Gournadi upazila of the district for abducting and raping a minor girl.
Confirming the matter, Gournadi police station OC Mahbubur Rahman said the victim’s father filed a case at the station on Wednesday night.
Police said the accused along with his associate abducted the victim when she was returning home from her private tuition on Monday evening. They kept her confined for two days and raped her.
Police later the arrested the accused and rescued the victim on Thursday.
The victim was sent to SBMCH for medical test and the accused was sent jail after he was produced before the court.
Meanwhile, Barisal Superintendent of Police (SP) Saiful Islam at a press conference at Barisal Police Lines on Thursday said they have arrested Ariful Islam, 27, the alleged murderer of college student Imran Hossain Hawlader, 22.
During the arrest, the victim’s mobile phone and a sharp weapon used in killing was seized from him.
The SP said: “Imran had been teasing Ariful wife Rabeya Begum since long. Imran, also the cousin of Ariful made some obscene pictures of Rabeya and blackmailed her forcing her to get engaged with him in physical relationship.”
After Rabeya mentioned the matter to Ariful, he went to Imran and asked him to delete the photographs of his wife and told him stop blackmailing her.
“When Imran refused, Ariful got angry and chopped Imran to death with a sharp weapon.”
“He was later sent to jail after confessing to the killing in front of a court, the SP added.
