A family staying away from home in fear of criminals in Jhenaidah

Due to this, more than two acres of crops are getting damaged

A family has been forced to stay away from their property in fear of attacks by some local criminals over a land dispute at Bhitshar village in Jhenaidah.

Due to the situation, more than two acres of crops are being neglected and getting damaged, too.

The victims demanded an immediate remedy to the problem at a press briefing, held at the Jhenaidah Press Club on Sunday.

Reading out a statement, one of the victims, Mohona Khatun, said: “From 2015 to 2017, a resident of the area, Faruk Ali, paid in three installments for a land he brought from Ramkanta Mandal’s son, Rishikesh Mandal, of same the village.”

Though Faruk’s family has started living on the property, Ramkanta has not yet transferred the land to them, she continued.

Mohona said: “In 2018, Rishikesh and his brother Amresh sold us a portion of Faruk’s land, which was even registered in our name.

“Later, they (the brothers) even tried to sell our registered property elsewhere and threatened to evict us from our own house.”

“Meanwhile on February 10, Rishikesh along with Saiful Dafadar, Shariful Islam, Bikash Chandra, Pijush Chandra and a few others, came to our house, beat us up, set fire to our kitchen, killed 10 of our ducks, and stopped cultivation on our land, for which more than two acres of crops are now on the verge of getting damaged,” Mohina added.

Two cases have been filed with the Jhenaidah court regarding the matter. The family wants intervention by the authorities and law enforcement agencies, so they can go back to their home.
