Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested the prime suspect in a case filed for the rape of a madrasa student in Barguna sadar upazila.
The prime suspect, Md Saiful Islam, a physical education teacher at Saheber Haola Rafezia Dakhil Madrasah, was arrested from Barisal’s Bakerganj police station area in the early hours of Thursday.
RAB 8 confirmed the matter on Thursday in a press release from its Patuakhali camp.
“In the early hours of Thursday, the elite force apprehended the prime suspect while he was fleeing from a RAB check-post, which the team had set up based on a tip-off near Barisal’s Bakerganj police station area,” the press release said.
RAB 8 Patuakhali-Barguna Camp Cdr, Maj Sheikh Nazmul Arefin, confirmed and said: “The suspect was cunning as he constantly moved around and switched mobile phones, but was ultimately apprehended.”
On January 10, the madrasah teacher lured one of his students to his residence and raped her. The critically injured victim was immediately admitted to Barguna General Hospital and later taken to Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital in Barisal.
Later, the victim’s father filed a case accusing Saiful Islam and his father, and sister-in-law.
