Man held over attempted child rape in Dinajpur

Police have arrested a man on the charge of attempting to rape a 7-year-old child in Chirirbandar upazila of Dinajpur.

Police made a drive to Raninbandar Bazar area of the upazila and arrested the accused, Nasir Uddin, 32, on Tuesday evening acting on a case filed on the same day, confirmed Sub-inspector Liton of Chirirbandar police station.

According to the case statement, on June 18, Nasir lured the child into his house promising her a balloon and attempted to rape her. Hearing her screams, locals rushed to the spot and caught him in the act.

“However, Nasir managed to flee the spot and we were able to arrest him four days after the incident,” said OC Subrata Kumar Sarker.

“We will send him to jail after producing him before the court,” added the OC.

Meanwhile, while demanding stringent punishment for Nasir, locals claimed that he is infamous in the area for his wrong deeds and had tried to rape two other children in the area in the last five years.
