Man kills father for Tk1,000

Local sources said the accused, Rajib, is a drug addict and mentally unstable for a long time


A 70-year-old man has been hacked to death reportedly by his son in Bancharampur upazila, Brahmanbaria. 

The deceased, Humayun Kabir, 75, was a retired Palli Bidyut official who was hacked to death with a sharp weapon in his house in Paratoli village of Chaifullahkandi union around 9am on Tuesday, police said.

Local sources said the accused, Rajib, is a drug addict and mentally unstable for a long time. He used to beat his parents for money, the locals said.

“On Tuesday, he was asking for Tk1,000 from his father and on being denied, Rajib hacked him to death,” said Fulmiah Chowdhury, a resident of the area.

Md Salauddin Chowdhury, officer-in-charge of Bancharampur police station, said: “We arrested the accused Rajib. We are aware of the fact that he is mentally unstable and all legal action will be taken according to the respective judicature.”
