The owner of a pharmacy has been stabbed to death at his rented flat in Jatrabari, Dhaka on Sunday.
The deceased is Tajul Islam, 40.
Jatrabari police station OC Majharul Islam said one person, identified as Hridoy, has been arrested over the incident.
According to the OC, a group of thieves were trying to break into Tajul's flat while he was out at 12pm. When Tajul returned and caught them trying to break in, they stabbed him.
The commotion attracted the attention of others nearby, who managed to capture one of the thieves and handed him over to police.
The incident is still being investigated, the OC added.
Tajul’s brother-in-law Azmal Hossain said Tajul lived in the Shanirakhra area of Jatrabari with his family. He owned a pharmacy and his village home is in Mehendiganj upazila of Barisal.
He was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital after being stabbed by the five or six thieves. The duty doctor declared him dead at around 1:30pm, Azmal added.
