An employee of the government’s Directorate of Social Services has been hacked to death by miscreants.
The incident took place in Tatipara area of Meherpur town at around 11pm on Thursday.
The victim, Faruk Hossain, 39, was declared dead by the on-duty doctor, Dr Habibur Rahman, after he was taken to Meherpur General Hospital.
Faruk, a local of Tatipara, was a field-level employee of the Social Services office.
The father of two also took part in the election for the councillor post of Meherpur Municipality Ward 3, but lost.
Meherpur Sadar police station OC Shah Dara Khan said police primarily did not find any motive behind the murder.
A team of police has already started investigating the matter, he said.
Faruk did not have any enemy, his uncle Alauddin said.
Meherpur Superintendent of Police SM Murad Ali visited the hospital and spoke with the deceased’s family, sources said.
