A total of 3,198 yaba pills and a bottle of phensedyl were seized during the arrest
A team of the Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) on Monday arrested an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of police along with 3,198 yaba pills and a bottle of phensedyl in Thikadarpara area of Rangpur.
The arrestee was identified as Maniruzzaman, posted in Kurigram district.
Cheque books of different banks were also seized from the police official.
Speaking to Dhaka Tribune, Rahat bin Kutub, executive magistrate of Rangpur district, said: "Acting on a tip-off, a team of law enforcers conducted a raid at Maniruzzaman's house on Station Road in Thikadarpara around 11:30am with the help of the district drug control department and arrested the ASI."
DNC Inspector Mahbub Rahman said: "A case will be filed under the Narcotics Control Act in this regard against the ASI and his landlord."
It has been learned that ASI Moniruzzaman had earlier been suspended on charges of involvement in drug use and trafficking.
