During primary interrogation, Ansar confessed to his involvement in the murder
Police recovered the decomposed body of a missing Jatiya Party leader from his farmhouse in Lohagara upazila of Chittagong on Saturday, a month after he went missing.
The deceased was identified as Anwar Hossain, 40, vice president of the Jatiya Party Lohagara upazila unit.
The JaPa leader went missing on 29 December, on his way to his farmhouse from home.
His family members lodged a missing diary with the Lohagara police station after failing to reach him.
Police arrested a Rohingya youth, Ansar, 22, from Kutupalong camp in Cox's Bazar, as well as a local teenager, in connection with the murder.
Based on crucial information provided by Ansar, Anwar's body was dug out of the farmhouse.
During primary interrogation, Ansar confessed to his involvement in the murder, stating that he worked on the farm and ran into an altercation with Anwar.
At one point, Ansar hit Anwar on the head with a spade, and then proceeded to stab him to death. After murdering him, the body was buried behind the farm.
The body has been sent to the Chittagong Medical College Hospital for an autopsy.
Zakir Hossain, officer-in-charge (OC) of Lohagara police station, confirmed to Dhaka Tribune that they tracked the absconding employee of the farm and apprehended Ansar from Cox’s Bazar.
