The Jahangirnagar University (JU) authorities have sacked an assistant professor of its government and politics department for sexually harassing a female student of the same department.
The dismissal decision of Sanwar Siraj was taken at a syndicate meeting of the university chaired by JU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Farzana Islam on Tuesday.
JU Acting Registrar Ramina Kaneez, also syndicate secretary, confirmed the matter to BSS on Wednesday.
Earlier, on September 19, 2019, a 43rd batch student of government and politics department filed a written complaint to the department chairman bringing allegations of sexual harassment against Sanowar Siraj.
On September 25, Prof Nasrin Sultana, chairman of the department sent the written complaint to the ‘Sexual harassment Prevention Cell’ of the university following a suicide attempt by the victim.
The cell then recommended the university authorities to remove the accused teacher from all types of academic and administrative activates of the university.
Later, on September 29, 2019, the university authorities removed Sanowar Siraj from all types of academic and administrative activities following the allegations.
Finally, the JU syndicate sacked the teacher on Tuesday as the allegation against him proved to be true.
