Police have arrested 4 over the incident, one being the survivor’s reported boyfriend
A 17-year-old girl was gang-raped in Thakurgaon on Saturday.
Police – following a case filed over the incident – have arrested four suspects till now.
The survivor’s mother filed the case with Thakurgaon Sadar police station under the Women and Children Repression Act.
Those arrested are: Babul, 19, Sohail Rana, 20, Ramzan Ali, 19, and Poidul Islam, 22.
Confirming the matter to Dhaka Tribune, Thakurgaon Sadar police station Officer-in-Charge Tanvirul Islam, said: “Anyone found guilty following investigation will be brought under the law.”
According to the police and locals, Babu alias Babul had an affair with the survivor which started a month ago over the phone.
On Saturday, at around 3pm, the girl went out to meet Babul near the Kashiadanga Bridge. She lied to her parents that she was going to her aunt's house.
From there, Babul, his friend Sohail along with four to five others abducted the girl and her niece.
Later, they held captive the niece inside a local chicken farm and took the survivor to a nearby mango orchard. The suspects’ then gang-raped the teenager in turns throughout the whole night.
Contacted, Inspector Ziarul Islam, the investigating officer (IO) of the case, said: “The girl’s medical examination has been completed. We will be able to tell more after receiving the report.
“Efforts are underway to arrest the others involved in the incident.”
