The arrested were sent to jail on Tuesday afternoon
Police have arrested five men on charge of gang-raping a female field agent of an insurance company in Faridpur's Madhukhali upazila.
The accused, arrested on Monday from different areas in Madhukhali, were sent to jail via a court order on Tuesday afternoon.
They are: Imdad Lashkar, 38; Farhad Sheikh, 25; Jewel Sheikh, 28; Farid Mollah, 24; and Liton Mollah, 40.
According to police sources, Imran, a former acquaintance of the survivor, sent her to Imdad on Sunday afternoon regarding prospects of finding new insurance clients.
There, three men including Imdad ambushed the woman and raped her. They also snatched the woman's gold chain and mobile phone before fleeing the scene.
Following the incident, she filed a case with Madhukhali police station on Monday naming the five accused. Police conducted a drive and arrested all five later the same day.
When contacted, Madhukhali police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shahidul Islam confirmed the matter and said: “Three of the five have already confessed to their crimes before a Faridpur court.”
The survivor’s mobile phone and other belongings have been recovered from the accused as well, he added.
