Perpetrator took advantage of deserted streets
A 25-year-old woman was raped inside pharmacy in the Kamrangirchar area of Dhaka on the third day of the strict lockdown Saturday.
The perpetrator was identified as Abdus Sattar, 38.
Mostafizur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Kamrangirchar police station, told Dhaka Tribune that Sattar has been arrested and acknowledged his crime during initial interrogation.
“Evidence and proof of rape was found during medical examination of the survivor,” the OC added.
He also said: “The survivor went to the Mokaddia Pharmacy to buy medicine and asked Sattar, who is a sales associate of the shop, to check her blood pressure as she felt like her blood pressure was low.
“Sattar invited her to go inside a small private room and convinced her that he would check her blood pressure as well as measure her weight, since she was feeling low. Once inside, he raped her,” the OC further said.
“The woman herself filed a case with my police station on rape charges. We will investigate the incident carefully,” he said.
Sub-Inspector of the police station Sentu Mia said the incident took place at a dispensary in the Sylheti Bazar area of Kamrangirchar.
“The perpetrator took advantage of the deserted streets, as people are staying home due to the lockdown,” he added.
