The accused have confessed to their crimes under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC)
The police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) has arrested a man and his mother from Ashuganj upazila of Brahmanbaria for their alleged involvement in a murder that took place about 10 months ago.
The arrestees were identified as Sabbir, 23, and Sheuli Begum, 45.
They were arrested following a drive in a house in Ashuganj on Saturday night for killing Nabi Hossain, 30, a resident of Aganagar village in Bhairab upazila of Kishoreganj district.
Chittagong Superintendent of Police Nazmul Hasan disclosed the information to media on Sunday.
“Sabbir hired some contract killers and abducted Nabi from Kishoreganj.
“They killed him in a car and carried the body all the way to Chittagong disposed of it in the Patiya area of the port city,” he added.
“When we recovered the body last year, it was completely unrecognizable.
“However, we were able to identify it later through the fingerprint identification and verification system,” said PIB Inspector Monir Hossain, who is also the investigating officer (IO) of the case.
Kabir Hossain, younger brother of the victim, filed a case with Patiya police station against Sabbir and Sheuli who were on the run before being arrested on Sunday.
An extramarital affair developed between Sheuli and Nabi and later she divorced her Saudi-expat husband and married Nabi, added Inspector Monir.
This enraged her son Sabbir and he planned to kill him as revenge.
According to the plan, he hired three killers – Tushar, Sumon, and Ashiq – to murder execute his plan.
Following a failed attempt on October 15, they successfully abducted the victim the next day and later strangled him to death in a car in Comilla before dumping the body in a jungle.
According to the IO of the case, Sabbir paid Tk60,000 (Tk15,000 in advance) to Sumon as part of their contract.
Patiya police station recovered the victim’s body the next day and resorted to modern technologies for identification.
The case was shifted to PBI after the arrest of Sumon and his associates.
Later, they confessed to the murder in a Chittagong court under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC).
Kabir Hossain, the plaintiff in the case, said: "My brother was brutally killed. I demand exemplary punishment of those responsible for the murder.”
