His wife is also accused in the case
A Dhaka court has framed charges against former state minister for housing and public works Abdul Mannan Khan and his wife Syeda Hasina Khatun in a case filed for amassing illegal wealth seven years ago.
Judge Mohammad Ali Hossain of the Dhaka’s Third Special Court 3 read out the charges on Sunday and asked them whether they plead guilty or not.
The duo claimed innocence and prayed for justice.
The court then fixed October 18 to start recording depositions of prosecution witnesses in the case filed with Ramna police station.
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed two separate cases against Mannan and Syeda Hasina with Ramna police station on August 21 and October 21 of 2014 for amassing illegal wealth and concealing information about it.
Mannan was granted bail on August 24, 2014 considering his illness and status as a former state minister, and his wife got bail on October 23 of the same year after they surrendered.
On May 5, 2015, ACC Deputy Director Nasir Uddin pressed charges against the accused.
The case statement against Mannan read that he concealed information of his property worth Tk4.59 lakh and he could not produce documents in favour of his income of Tk75 lakh.
Sayeda Hasina accumulated illegal wealth worth around Tk3.46 crore and concealed information about more than Tk1.86 crore, according to the charges.
