Dairy Development and Women Empowerment workshop held

Female Dairy Entrepreneur Development National Forum, Oxfam in Bangladesh and Human Development Research Centre jointly hosted the programme at Shahid Nurul Amin Khan Memorial Hall in BIAM Foundation in the capital. State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Narayan Chandra Chanda was present at the event as the chief guest. Four research papers on Accessibility into Financial Institution of Marginalised Female Farmers Deployed in Milk Producing, Accessibility into Expansion Service, Ensuring Positive Role of Marketing Institution and Establishing Gender Sensitive Market and Empowering Women Through Releasing Unevaluated Care Work and Redistributing were presented in the workshop. Member Secretary to the Forum Sheikh Ali Ahmed Tutul presented the research papers while Economic Justice and Resilience Activity (Oxfam) Programme Manager Dr Khalid Hossain, HRDC Research Director Dr Abhijit Podder were present, with lawmaker Umme Kuslum Smrity, member, Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Agriculture, in the chair. Small female entrepreneurs hailed from different regions in the country also attended the workshop demanding adequate recruitment of manpower at union levels to extend services.A female entrepreneur placing demand to the state minister for women friendly policy in the dairy sector A female entrepreneur placing demand to the state minister for women friendly policy in the dairy sector They demanded easy deposit policy, easy term for loan and women friendly policy for the commercial banks. They also urged the government to rearrange the tax-structure for imported powder milk so that native farmers do not face imbalanced competition. State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Narayan Chandra Chanda assured the small entrepreneurs that his ministry would help them overcome the problems. Oxfam in Bangladesh Country Director Snehal V Soneji at the programme said: “Oxfam has involved itself with the development project in Bangladesh since the post-liberation period of the country. Oxfam does not emphasise only economical development for the women, rather prefers equal rights for them.” “Currently, Oxfam is continuing its cooperation for dairy development through the development of female entrepreneurs and empowering themselves.”
