Dhaka Metro a step closer to reality! The trial run of the country’s first-ever metro train has successfully been conducted at the metro rail factory in Japan on the occasion of the birth centenary of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) has posted the video of the trial run on its Facebook page on Wednesday.

According to a DMTCL official, the outlook of the metro rail has been custom-designed matching with the flag of Bangladesh.

The rail, made with stainless steel, can carry up to a maximum of 2,308 passengers. The train is scheduled to arrive in Dhaka on June 15 after completion of all kind of factory tests, said MAN Siddique, director-general of DMTCL.

The commercial launching of metro rail will be started on December 16, 2021, celebrating the 50th year of Bangladesh’s independence.

The 31.241km long metro rail will be divided into two parts — the 19.872km underground portion (Airport to Kamalapur) and the 11.369km elevated portion (Notun Bazar to Pitalganj via Purbachal).
