The terminal will be double the size of the current airport
State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism M Mahbub Ali has said the construction of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport’s Terminal 3 will be completed in June 2023.
The state minister made the remarks on Saturday during a visit to the construction site.
“We are ahead of the target in terms of construction of the terminal. In June 2021, 14.5% of the work of this terminal was supposed to be completed, but as of today, 17% of the work has been completed,” he said.
The state minister said the size of the terminal would be more than double that of the current airport.
A station of the metro rail will be built at the third terminal. Through this, passengers coming to Bangladesh will be able to go to their destination by the train without leaving the airport, according to a statement released by the ministry.
Apart from this, anyone can go directly to the airport from any station in Dhaka by metro rail.
Also, the terminal will be connected to Ashkona Hajj Camp via a tunnel. It would facilitate the pilgrims to enter the airport directly from the Hajj camp.
Secretary to Civil Aviation Ministry Mokammel Hossain, Chairman of Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh Air Vice Marshal M Mafidur Rahman, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Biman Bangladesh Airlines Dr Abu Saleh Md Mostafa Kamal and other senior officials were present during the visit.
