Within an hour of the announcement, Red meat sellers in Dhaka have stepped back from the decision to go on strike from first Ramadan protesting irregularities like extortion and unsanctioned taxes in the cattle market.
They took the decision after Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed assured them to talk with concerned people to meet their demands.
In a meeting with the commerce minister at Secretariat on Sunday, the meat sellers pressed their demands.

Then Tofail Ahmed said: “I will talk to concerned authorities and sit in a meeting with you (the meat sellers) within two or three days over the issue.”
General Secretary of Bangladesh meat sellers’ association Rabiul Alam confirmed it to the Dhaka Tribune on Sunday.
Earlier in the morning, he made an announcement to enforce strike if their demands were not meet within next 15 days.
The meat sellers went on the strike from February 13 Monday till February 18 to press home their same demands.
They alleged the Dhaka North City Corporation was not properly maintaining Gabtoli cattle market – the major hub of cattle sales in Dhaka and the leaseholders— were extorting cattle merchants and had even hired enforcers to threaten people if they refuse to pay.
