Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has chalked out a plan to ensure safe and easy movement of the city dwellers during the upcoming month of Ramadan.
DMP Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia at a press conference at the DMP headquarters on Monday said that their plan was to make sure people can reach home safely to have iftar with their family at the end of the day's work during Ramadan, do the shopping, leave and return to the city safely during the Eid vacation.
DMP teams will work in coordination with the district police to ease traffic congestion at Dhaka's entry and exit points, including Gabtoli, Babu Bazar Bridge, Keraniganj, Kanchpur and Abdullahpur, he said.
Police teams and detectives have already been deployed in bus stands, launch terminals and railway stations to prevent hijacking, theft and activities of dope gangs, he added.
Mentioning that damaged roads in different parts of the city has been one of the causes of traffic congestion, the DMP chief said they had provided the authorities, including the two city corporations and the Roads and Highways Department, with the video footage of those areas for initiating quick repair works.
DMP recently held a meeting with the authorities of all the city market. Besides the law enforcement agencies, each shopping complex will have its own security measures.
Police will work together with the security teams of the shopping complexes the ensure the security there, said Asaduzzaman.
Number of police check posts would be increased while police patrol be extended overnight so that the shoppers can return home safely, he added.
The DMP chief hoped that the city dwellers would cooperate with the law enforcers to ensure safe and disciplined traffic in the city.
