On Saturday morning, the family of Zakir Hossain Shaon, a victim of the terrorist attack at Holey Artisan Bakery, was prevented by the police from participating in a tribute on the premises.
Shaon's mother Masuda Begum approached the site of the former bakery with her husband and daughter at around 11:30am. But the police refused her entry to the premises.

Maksuda lamented that neither the government nor the law enforcement agencies had communicated with her family over the past one year. She claimed her son was killed in police custody.
“When we went to the hospital to see my son, he had no chances of revival. I am a poor person, all I want is justice,” she said.

Journalists surrounded the grieving mother who expressed to the audience her anguish at the apparent disregard by the administration.
After journalists questioned the police why Shaon’s family was being restricted, police allowed her in around 12:15pm.
When asked, Abu Bakar Siddique, officer-in-charge of Gulshan police station claimed that the allegations are baseless.

“I took her inside the cafe premises where she stayed for 15-20 minutes. If she made any such claim, it is untrue,” he said.
Shaon, a former Holey Artisan staff, was detained from the Gulshan café under suspicion. He later died in custody prompting his family to raise allegations that he was a victim of police brutality and torture.
